How to Make Rice Krispie Monster Treats - Rice Krispie Monster Treats Recipe

How to Make Rice Krispie Monster Treats

Ingredients

¼ cup (60 ml) salted butter
40 large marshmallows or 4 cups (960 ml) mini marshmallows
½ teaspoon (0.75 ml) vanilla extract
6 cups (1440 ml) Rice Krispies cereal
4 cups (960 ml) different colored candy melts (1 cup pink, 1 cup green, 1 cup blue, 1 cup orange)
4-5 tablespoons (60-75 ml) different sized candy eyes (small, medium, big)
Cooking oil

How to make it

Part 1 Making the Rice Krispies Treats

1 Prepare a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.

You can choose to grease the pan by spraying non-stick cooking spray all over it, or you can cover the pan with parchment paper.

2 Melt the butter in a medium-sized pan over lower heat.

Stir gently with a rubber spatula until fully melted.

3 Fold in the marshmallows and mix once more until the marshmallows melt.

The marshmallows will start off sticky and gooey, but will begin to melt and turn into a thick liquid after a few minutes of melting and stirring.

4 Shut off the stove and remove the heat.

Pour in the vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.

5 Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir carefully with a rubber spatula.

Mix well until the dry cereal is fully incorporated with the melted marshmallows.

For easier mixing, spray the rubber spatula with cooking spray before using it as a mixing tool. The marshmallows won't stick to the utensil and make the process simpler.

6 Place the Rice Krispies mixture over the baking pan.

Flatten it all around the baking pan with the rubber spatula.

7 Leave the treats to cool for about half an hour until they harden.

8 Slice the Rice Krispies treats into medium-sized rectangular pieces.

Place them on a serving plate and set aside for later use.

Part 2 Decorating and Serving

1 Cover a large tray with parchment paper.

2 Melt the candy melts in a microwave until fully melted.

Separate the candy melts by their color and place them in four different microwave-safe bowls. Microwave each bowl for about 30 seconds to a minute, mixing every few seconds to prevent the mixture from scorching.

3 Add a teaspoon or two of cooking oil into each bowl of melted candy melts.

The cooking oil causes the mixture to come out smoother, making dipping easier for the Rice Krispies treats.

The more cooking oil you add, the smoother it becomes. Feel free to add much as needed, but avoid adding it all at once to prevent air bubbles from forming. Add the oil slowly, usually adding one-half teaspoon at a time.

4 Dip the Rice Krispies treats into the melted candy melts.

This is your time to be creative as you decorate your 'monsters'. The entire treat can be covered with melted candy melts, but dipping only half of it is preferable. Use different colors as you continue dunking the treats into the candy melts. Once properly covered, lay the treats on the tray.

You can use a fork to drizzle any extra details or colors onto your monster treats if desired.

Dip the Rice Krispies treats in different positions. The top part is usually the easiest to dunk in, but the sides can be covered in that position as well.

5 Add the candy eyes onto your Rice Krispies treats.

Be creative! Each monster treat does not need to have two same-sized candy eyes. Try a variety of different sized eyes and add more than two on some of the treats.

6 Allow the treats to dry for a few minutes until they harden.

7 Serve.

Place the monster Rice Krispies treats onto a serving plate. Enjoy!
